The Host movie

No doubt the announcement that The Host would be made into a movie was a huge occasion for Stephenie Meyer's fans. Back in April, when the idea of The Host as a movie was discussed, fans were very enthusiastic about the idea that the book has movie potential, so the fact that Meyer has agreed to bringing the story to film has been very exciting. In 2010, progress on the film should be seen in some form or another - whether it be scripting, casting, or actual filming. The Host, which is Stephenie Meyer's first non-Twilight saga novel (and first adult science fiction/fantasy novel), is the first of a proposed three-part series, and when Stephenie Meyer appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, she discussed the possibility of continuing her writing on that series. So, in addition to watching The Host come to cinematic fruition, perhaps there will be more progress on the book front with this series. All this should prove to be a very exciting piece of 2010 for Twilight fans.

So what do you think? Do you think we're actually going to get anything this year? Next month? Spring? Summer? Fall? o_O

Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)
As with all book-movie adaptations, clearly some parts of The Host are going to be left out of the movie. Of course, it would be nice to see it all on screen, but what parts do you think they should leave out for the greater good of the main plotline?

Doc and Wanda {new casting suggestions}

  • Dec. 30th, 2009 at 5:36 PM

Ioan Gruffudd or  Emily Browning

Those of you that are fans of the Twilight Saga know that Stephenie Meyer originally wanted to cast Emily Browning as Bella. Since SMeyer is such a fan, do you think she would cast Emily for the role of Wanderer? My other suggestion is for Doc, I ran across a photoshoot for Ioan Gruffudd and thought "he is Doc."

The Examiner: Casting Poll Results

  • Dec. 30th, 2009 at 4:46 AM
There was a new article in The Examiner. Apparently they had a poll at some point and now Winners revealed! Your choices for cast of "The Host" movie!

Again, this is nothing related to official casting (and it looks like some important contenders may have been left off the initial poll), but it shows what a different and larger audience thinks of casting.

There's more information in the article about the actors chosen, but here are the results they came up with:
Melanie Stryder: Sophia Bush and Missy Peregrym (tight votes were considered ties)
Wanderer: Jayne Wisener
Ian O'Shea: Ian Somerhalder
Jared Howe: Jensen Ackles and Ryan Reynolds
Kyle O'Shea: Chris Evans
Jamie Stryder: Josh Hutcherson
Uncle Jeb: Sam Elliot
Doc: Christian Bale
The Seeker: Parker Posey

Your thoughts? Not just about who is in your personal dream cast instead, but what you think of these actors and why others might have chosen them?

fan made "episodes" of The Host

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 5:02 AM
So I was browsing on YouTube a very long time ago and came upon this series of videos. I forgot to post them until now. Basically some fans of book put together "episodes" of each chapter (they only have the first 3 so far, I think). It's kinda weird and slightly creepy, yet strangely amusing and interesting to watch, especially since the dialogue is taken straight from the book.

Here is the episode in which Wanderer recalls the memory of when Jared and Melanie met for the first time. It has "opening credits" and starts at around 1:44.

There's also the Seeker and Fords talking and Wanderer waking up from the insertion.

What do you think??
